It is here that we remember our late Board of Directors whom have unfortunately left us recently. Their dedication and efforts to the North Texas State Fair Association will not be forgotten, and they will live on in our hearts for years to come.
Walt Garrison was born here in Denton, Texas, a great cowboy (both on and off the field) and a cherished leader of the North Texas State Fair Association. In January of 2018, the fair association named him a lifetime honorary board of director. The North Texas Fair & Rodeo is better because of him, and we are grateful for his contributions to the association.
James was president of the Denton County Agricultural Fair Association (DCAFA) from 1973 until 1983 and served as president of the Texas Association of Fairs & Events (TAF&E). On June 16, 1981, the board amended the original articles of incorporation to officially change the name of the corporation from DCAFA to the North Texas State Fair Association (NTSFA). Roden, the first paid executive director of the NTSFA, served from 1983 until January 2000.
Bill served as a long-time volunteer, member of the Board of Directors and three-time president. He dedicated nearly 60 years of his life to the North Texas State Fair Association, and his contributions will benefit this association for many years to come.
Harry was born and raised in Denton, Texas. He is the former president of DATCU and served as the Executive Board Treasurer of NTFR. The North Texas State Fair Association and Denton admired him as a member and cherished all of his contributions. He married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Harpool, and they served the city of Denton with all of their hearts.
R.D. was passionate about kids and agriculture. He donated not only his time, but also his money. He served as President of the North Texas State Fair Association from 2005 through 2011, and he served on the Board of Directors for the fair from 2005 through 2017. R.D.’s hard work and dedication contributed to the education and development of hundreds of Denton County youth. His willingness to care for the fair association led to the improvement of the facilities and the betterment of the association as a whole.
Bobby was a long time volunteer and supporter of the North Texas State Fair Association and had a love for youth and the agricultural industry that was bigger than Texas. Bobby is survived by his wife Judy Jones, daughters Jacee Kiefer and husband Cory, Crystal Clark and husband Phillip, and 5 grandchildren that were the light of his eyes.
Robert served his community in many ways by contributing and participating in countless benefit auctions/dinners, service projects and simply helping anyone in need. He was a member of the Denton Elks Lodge, served on the board of directors of the North Texas State Fair Association and once served as the President of C.A.S.I. There was never a dull moment with Robert and most often included unbelievable stories and events.
